Record group 98-8 consists of official orders of the director of the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources (and its predecessor, the Dept. of Conservation) and the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. Document issues that apply to field sites. Subjects include alcoholic beverage consumption in state parks, bear hunting regulations, camping rules in state forests, mooring facilities in various harbors, regulations in and around public access sites to lakes, and daily public use of state lands. Directors who issued the orders include Ralph MacMullan, A. Gene Gazlay, Howard Tanner, Ronald O. Skoog, Gordon E. Guyer, and Roland Harmes.

The 1925 Clark-McNary Act expanded the provisions of 1911 Federal legislation creating the National Forest System (Weeks Law). It made it easier for the United States Department of Agriculture to buy land from those sellers whose property was located within the National Forest System.
